We just got back from another trip out of town – Nashville, actually. I love that place. It’s so beautiful, especially this time of year, and we have so many friends there. It was nice to catch up with a few of them while in town.
Our children, Will and Sidney, just started school a couple of weeks ago, just like most kids in the US. They go to a University Model School, which means they only go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and do homework on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Where was that when I was growing up you ask?? I know, me too!! Anyway, this allows for a lot of flexibility with their school schedules and our ministry schedule. However, September has been extremely busy for us and fourth grade is much more strenuous and time-consuming for Will than was his third grade year. That being said, we are struggling somewhat to get our schedules to mesh like they have in the past. Well, these things, coupled with other just as weighty things have been consuming my thoughts. I was really struggling this morning with how to juggle it all and how to not make our children feel slighted, when I called out to God the simple, but powerful, prayer of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.â€
God is so cool! When I opened my Bible, I opened it to where it had been marked before. I had read through Matthew while I was reading Crazy Love and marked it at the beginning of Mark. I usually just read different passages that I feel like God has laid on my heart, but this morning I went to where the tassel marked. In the very beginning of Mark it speaks of John the Baptist: “…the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight…’â€Â I just sat there really considering what he was saying. Here was a messenger of the Lord (what we all are) preparing the way of the Lord (what we should all be doing). And there were those words, “make his paths straight.â€Â I realized that I needed to be obedient in preparing the way of the Lord, letting others know of His salvation and His coming again and trust Him to make my paths straight.
How will He do it? I don’t know. I’m not going to lean on my own understanding. I want to trust Him to do what He says, and promises, to do. He never lies! He can’t because it goes against His very nature. He is TRUTH: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’†John 14:6
He will continue to broaden our territory in ministry. What does that look like? I don’t know but He does! He will allow Will and Sidney to continue to get a good education even with the schedule increase. What does that look like? I don’t know but He does! He will continue to strengthen my faith and trust in Him during the financial struggles that we’ve put ourselves in. What does that look like? I don’t know but He does!
I don’t know what your big things are. We all have them. Maybe it’s with your children. Maybe it’s with your spouse. Maybe it’s with your health or your aging parents. I do know that our God is able to meet “every need according to His good riches in glory in Christ Jesus.†Phil. 4:19
He loves all of us infinitely! He’s passionate about each one of His children. He created us. He knows us. He loves us. Trust Him with it – ALL of it. He is capable and He is enough!
